Evidential Sittings Explained
Evidential Sittings
An evidential sitting is what some call a mediumistic reading.
The aim of such an appointment is to unite the two worlds – a loved one in the spirit world and you, the sitter, in the earthly world.
While there are many types of mediumship, some are passive such as trance and physical mediumship and healing mediumship, whereas evidential mediumship is ‘active mental mediumship’. This means that the medium may be in a slightly shifted mental state but otherwise remains fully conscious throughout. No observable phenomena accompany a typical mental mediumship session, unlike in physical mediumship. All the information comes from the mind of your loved one directly to the mind of the medium, and the medium conveys the information to you. In such sessions a medium acts as the intermediary between your loved ones in the spirit world and yourself.
In mediumship of this type the importance is always on presenting evidence about your loved one – information that you can verify. This may include details of their passing, their relationship to you, a physical description and significant shared memories. All that is asked is that you reply honestly with a simple ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘I don’t know’ or ‘I can’t remember’.
Mediumship should also convey a strong feeling of the loved one’s emotions – their love for you, their attitudes, thoughts and feelings. Mediumistic connections are possible because the person loved and cared for you or thought fondly of you, and that love does not disappear when the person dies. A spirit communicator may sometimes wish to apologise or admit regret about something. In such cases it is always helpful for the person’s spiritual evolution if you forgive them if that is what they are seeking. This will help your loved one to progress through their afterlife journey, freeing them from the dense materiality of the physical world.
Be open and receptive
In an evidential sitting it is important to remain open to who comes to communicate with you. If you have recently lost someone, it may not be them that comes to connect which may be disappointing. They may not have enough energy to make and hold the connection for a long period. You may also be too emotionally raw to receive a message from the person you have just lost and you are still grieving. For this reason, it is often better to leave it at least a year after a passing before booking an evidential sitting. Other relatives may come instead, but we should always treat mediumship as experimental.
Your spirit loved one is a multi-dimensional being.
That means that they can blend with me and my mind and at the same time be standing right beside you and supporting you at the same time. It is not unusual for clients to mention a strong feeling of their loved one’s presence.
Blending
Unlike a psychic reading where I focus all of my attention forward and on you and your energetic body, in evidential mediumship my energetic focus will always be with the spirit world which I become aware of building up behind me, and in most cases to the right blending with my expanded aura.
Like my other psychic skills, I see, hear and feel the spirit world. I also receive some information through scent or taste, and in some cases once a strong link with spirit is achieved, words often simply flow from me directly.
